Brett Favre in a Vikings jersey is like when Heinz tried to make ketchup in colors other than red.  For some reason you just know that it is not supposed to be purple.

I understand the statements about this being a bad investment for Minnesota and Favre either being too old, too hurt, or just not that good anymore, but as a Vikings fan there are really only two ways to take this:

1. Hate Brett Favre with the same passion you’ve hated him forever, in which case you have to expect he fails miserably or you’re just an idiot.
2. Embrace Favre, buy purple number 4 jerseys (even if they’re weird as hell), cheer for him, and hope he has a great season.

As a fan, the second option really is the only choice that doesn’t turn the season into 17 week’s of hating yourself and your life right from the beginning, so in other words “Go Favre!”

Regardless, I’m just glad there’s excitement around the Vikings heading in to the season, and you can expect I’ll be extemely excited for Monday Night Football on October 5th, when the Vikes welcome the Packers to the Metrodome.

Now if only the Vikings could pull off a trade for Randy Moss, all would be right in Vikings land.

And as random meaningless backup to my point, Not a single image in the first page of a google image search for “Brett Favre” is Minnesota related.

Benny Feilhaber just subbed into the game, and I instantly recalled this goal against Mexico in the 2007 Gold Cup final. It just has to be watched and re-watched.

The track looks like a complete mess right now, which might work in my favor because Friesan Fire tends to be OK with mud, and Dunkirk has a couple 1 1/8 mile races already, so he may have some useful experience.  Wish me luck.

This is a pretty cool article that outlines a few moderately scientific attempts to explain why there have been so many home runs at the new Yankee Stadium.  I wasn’t actually aware of this because it’s been a bit difficult to follow baseball so far, but it’s a cool mixture of sports and science, two things I’m at least somewhat fond of.

I don’t know why, but whether it’s the playoff beard, a competition with teammates, or a throwback game, athletes love a reason to grow facial hair.  Regardless, I think it’s awesome.

This is pretty amazing. I say just take the ten minutes and watch the video.

Jack and I went to the Sox game last night, and we were both really stoked because it was our first Sox-Yankees game. Unfortunately it didn’t work out too well.

First, the start was delayed about an hour and a half. That was ok, Jack and I expected this and just chilled at the apartment until NESN said the game was gonna start, so we didn’t have to sit out in the cold.

So here’s the view from the seats we had

Then just into the fifth inning, some serious rain started and we went into rain delay. When you’re down 12-5 at this point, you kinda cheering for the rain hoping they’ll call the game. That’s what we did.

Because the game had a delayed start there were a good number of people who just didn’t show up, during the rain delay even more people left and fenway got pretty empty.

Once the game restarted we upgraded. These seats were about ten rows back from the field, right next to the red sox on deck circle.

Then the iPhone camera glitched. I’m pretty disappointed Apple hasn’t fixed this yet. It also still takes about 6 seconds for the iPhone camera to start up to a point where you can take a picture. That makes it really tough to get a quick picture, which hinders the benefits of having a super mobile camera built into your phone.

Eventually we re-upgraded and this time our seats were in the third row. It was pretty awesome, we didn’t manage to get a ball though. We got to see Jacoby a couple times, he’s pretty awesome.

The end of the game was a bit rough, but at least we scored a few runs. We’re pretty sure they scored those runs because Jack and I put on our rally caps for the bottom of the ninth.

Then after the game we met up with more friends

and on to the next geek event weekend. I’m hanging out at podcampseattle and about 45 minutes after i got here I saw there was already a video I’m clearly visible in on flickr. New Media is definitely a revolution. I’m at the bottom left talking to http://www.twitter.com/pplpwrd, btw

The first basketball game i ever went to was for my 12th birthday. I went to see KG and the Timberwolves play against Mugsey Bogues, Vlade Divac, and the then Charlotte Hornets. I’m really happy KG got his championship.

Tt’s even cooler that the celts won it after having lived in Boston for the past 4 years, it’s just too bad I couldn’t be there to celebrate when they won it.

if you somehow didn’t already know (in which case you probably don’t actually know me), I’m a huge north dakota hockey fan (how can you not be? they’re the best in the country, clearly). So anyways some friends and I were talking about how a UND player recently tripped the wisconsin mascot at a game. I find this to be pretty funny as it wasn’t horribly vicious and the mascot wasn’t hurt. The player that did it was big joe finley, who at 6′ 7″ is one scary dude to have skating at you. Anyways, the mascot tripping wasn’t really the highlight of the weekend. They resolved that issue with Finley having to send the mascot a written apology. Some of the other interesting moments from the North Dakota – Wisconsin rivalry weekend were caught on video though, and you can view them thanks to youtube.
